Bratwurst/ Lager onions and sauerkraut


  •  Heat the cooking oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until oil is wavey.

  •  Place the bratwurst into the skillet and sear on all sides for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown

  •  Remove bratwurst and add onions and butter to the pan

  • Turn heat down to medium setting.

  •  Cook onions until brown and soft.

  • Add picked thyme and salt and pepper to taste.

  • Add the water or beer do the onions in the skillet

  •  Place bratwurst back into the pan with the onions and liquid.

  •  Cover with lid and steam for 3-5 minutes or internal tempuratue hits 165 F

  • When done, the liquid should have reduced by half.

  • Toast the roll and smear with stone ground mustard.

  • Place onions on the bun with the bratwurst and top with sauerkraut


Substatute the beer with water  if no alchohal is desired.


  • 1.5 Tbsp cooking oil

  • 5 Each Bratwurst {raw, in casing}

  • 1 Large yellow onion

  • 2 Tbsp Butter

  • 5 Sprigs fresh thyme (picked)

  • 1 Cup Lager beer or water

  • 1 Cup Sauerkraut

  • 4 hard sausage rolls

  • Salt and pepper to taste
