When the study was discontinued due to the low number of study participants, a further 12 women were recruited to be treated for a further 6 months using a low dose of testosterone. This treatment had the same clinical effect as both testosterone replacement and weight reduction, although it was not statistically significant (n=7). In a further 12 women there were no significant differences in the quality of the study.
